Have you ever wondered what pet groomers do with all the fur they trim off of your pets?! I had never even considered this. But, groomer Linda Bruinsma decided she had enough of just dumping this fur into landfills, and she figured out a way to make better use of the trimmed off fur.
Linda did some research and learned about an organization called Matters of Trust. This non-profit takes on surplus materials and tries to turn them into environmentally friendly products. They use leftover animal hair to make “Oil Spill Hairmats”. These are used to help collect oil (petroleum) that has been spilled in accidents in water. They accept donations of leftover hair from groomers, pet owners, human salons, etc.
Linda currently ships her trimmings, along with other groomers, once a month to Matters of Trust. She says it is worth the cost to her (about $60 a month) to help the environment in this way.
Do you have ways that you recycle or help the environment while you’re doing things for your pet? It’s important to be aware of these unique alternatives! If you have other ideas, please share with us in the comments! (Photo from PeoplePets.com)

I just went to A Matter of Trust’s web site and they are no longer accepting donations of hair and fur.
OHH that’s too bad!!
Thanks for letting me know.
I wonder if they know any other organization that offers this? I’ll have to do some searching ..
