Guest Post: Worlds Largest Fire Hydrant

Beaumont, Texas
24 feet tall
This hydrant is located in front of the Fire Museum of Texas in Beaumont and it actually works! It was built at Disneyland as a promotional installation for 101 Dalmatians in 1999 and Beaumont volunteered to be the permanent home of the hydrant.  It reportedly weighs 4,500lbs and can spray 1,500 gallons of water per minute.

2^nd Place

Elm Creek, Manitoba
29.5 feet tall

Built over the course of seven months by volunteer fire fighters and completed in July 2001, this fire hydrant is 29 and 1/2 ft. tall, beating Beaumont, Texas by 5.5 feet. It was unveiled on Canada Day.

1^st Place

Columbia, South Carolina
39 feet tall

Artist Blue Sky’s “BustedPlugPlaza,” with its enormous leaning fire hydrant fountain, was officially unveiled to the city of Columbia on February 18, 2001. The fire hydrant is 39 ft. tall, a nearly five ton steel sculpture set in a concrete base.
