Darrell Lecorre – Abbstracts

Today we feature portrait photographer Darrell Lecorre from Vancouver, BC.  Darrell draws inspiration from his big black dog named Abby who is the subject of his new series of photos taken during their dog walks in the Fraser Valley.  Here are some photos from his portfolio and more info on his new project “Abbstracts” below.

Abby

How would you describe your new project “Abbstracts”?

“Abbstracts” is a series out of focus and non-linear photographs of my dog Abby, that I made while out on our daily walks together.

Tell me more about Abby.

Abby is a sweetheart, a bit of a spaz at times, a serious girl, snores louder than my grandfather, has been banned from a few kennels, takes up too much room on the bed, an antagonist to rotator cuffs, and I think still finds the camera a major inconvenience.

What inspired you to create this series?

Frustration! I figured out I was walking her over 700 hours a year, and as much as I accept my ownership responsibilities, I still found that number hard to swallow at times. I was searching for a way to experience my relationship with our walks differently, and the camera, used in a way that was foreign to me, turned out to be the outlet.

What do you hope to do with the photos? Do you plan on continuing or expanding the project?

I have the series up on my fine art site, lecorregallery.com, and they are available for purchasing. I’ll soon explore exhibition options as well. This project served it’s purpose for me, and like a good vacation, it’s time to move on. I may do some landscape photography this way in the future, but in terms of Abby this is complete. I have another project with her in mind, and am currently in the process of trying to coax her into participating.
